November 2024
Greetings everyone!
Bet you were expecting a letter from our new GVWGA President, Cindy Keller, but you’re stuck with her understudy. (Thank God there’s no singing or dancing involved!) Cindy has asked me to draft this letter to let you know how much she appreciates being elected President and how she's very much looking forward to working with all of us! Currently, she is helping her mom transition to an assisted living facility. Things are not going as smoothly as she hoped, so please say a prayer that she and Mom make it through the stormy waters. I believe we can all agree that family should be our foremost priority, and asking for an assist occasionally is a healthy option.
As for me, I’m also thankful for your support in giving me another two-year VP run representing an awesome group of kick-ass ladies (who happen to play golf.) I believe we have an amazing Board in place and together, with your valuable input, we will strive to make GVWGA one of the most sought-after memberships in town.
In closing, I leave you with a joke. What's the best way to keep a turkey in suspense? You'll find out at Thanksgiving dinner! (Hmmm, maybe I would do better with the singing or dancing.) Wishing you a safe and happy Thanksgiving from the entire GVWGA Board!
Best regards,
Cathy Smith

Hello Members,
First: You may have heard, the amendment to the Constitution (Article IV Officers and Elections) has passed. We have moved into the 21st century with on line voting. Thank you for your participation.
Next: This is an election year. The amended Article IV allows ALL members to vote - not just those who attend the fall Awards Banquet. So please exercise the voting privilege. Let your voice be heard. On 9/15 you will receive the ballot with instructions and time restraints etc. Lets make this election a success. Unfortunately, very few members have stepped up to run for office but we will carry out the process anyway. You still have time to nominate a member for the position of President, Vice president, Secretary and Treasurer. Contact nominating chair, Michele Miller, immediately. Many thanks to those who stepped up and to those who gave running for office a consideration. Election results will be announced at the banquet.
Finally: The fall Awards Banquet flyer is posted on the website. Make your reservation now!!!
With just a couple tournaments left for the 2024 season, I hope to see you all there.

Hello Members,
Here we are in the middle of the 2024 season. Can it get any hotter???
Just a reminder that this is an election year. We amended the constitution to establish a new election procedure that allows ALL members to vote - not just those who attend the Awards Banquet in the fall. But first we need candidates to run for the elected positions: President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. If you are interested in serving the Association as an elected officer (or perhaps serve on a committee), please notify Michele Miller, Nominating Chair, as soon as possible. Have an opinion on how things should be run? Get on the board and have your voice heard. With 180 members to organize, more help is always needed.
Some sad news - long time member, Arlene Williams, passed away recently. She also ran the 9 hole league at Genesee Valley for years - where many of us were first introduced to GVWGA. Rest in peace, Arlene. We'll always remember your contribution.
Be sure to stay hydrated out there. See you on the links.

July 2024
Hello Members,
Its hard to believe we're already half way through 2024. The older you get, the faster it goes, so they say.
Sue Sogard's Birdie/Skins pool seems to have caught on quite well. Her committee is reviewing and will continue to evaluate the process to insure fair and equitable results for all participants. If you participate, please be mindful of time spent on the greens lining up that all important birdie putt. We must still maintain proper speed of play at all events.
Check out the new "Pair Me" feature on the GVWGA website. Its a new idea being introduced to allow singles to find a partner or complete a foursome for upcoming events.
-Go to the website
-Sign on to Members Only
-Click on Pair Me
-Write a comment indicating who you are and what you need (a partner, a fourth etc)
-Click publish.
Not difficult. Even I can do it. Thanks to Michelle Miller for the idea and Liz Prescod and Cathy Smith for making it happen.
So, we step into the second half of the year with a big bang. Happy 4th of July, everyone.
God bless America!

June 2024
Hello Members,
With just a few tournaments under our belts, its fair to say that Mother Nature has not been our biggest supporter. However, we're hopeful for pleasant temps and plenty of sunshine in the coming weeks.
It has been requested that all players check in at least 1/2 hour prior to tee time. Please keep in mind that the tournament coordinator and her team have been sitting at the registration table for well over an hour before the late arrivals check in. They need time for last minute preparation also. Lets show them a little respect.
So here's to good health, good weather and good golf!!! And...happy Fathers' Day to all our Dads.
See you on the links,
Georgia
October 2024
Hello Members,
I would first like to thank the many members who have voted in our election and apologize to those same members for the numerous messages we have sent to encourage more votes. This will be the last one you receive from me. There are still 2 or 3 dozen members who have not cast a ballot. The deadline is 10/8. If you need technical assistance, please contact Liz Prescod. 100% participation would be outstanding! Election results will be announced at the banquet.
Next I'd like to explain our plan for prize money distribution at the banquet. There will be a continuously running Power Point presentation that displays the results of all tournaments. A table of prize money envelopes, arranged alphabetically by last name, will be set up near the screen. Pick up your winnings there. Congratulations to all winners. This method will keep the meeting shorter.
The Fall Awards Banquet concludes our 2024 season. I look forward to seeing you there.

May 2024
Hello Members,
Attended by 100 members, we kicked off the 2024 season with the Spring Banquet last week at Eagle Vale Golf Club. Many thanks, again, to Amy Hay, Cheryl Kauffman and their crew for organizing the event. And...with 3 tournaments in the works, we'll soon meet on the links, hopefully in sunshine.
The new election procedure was reviewed and a couple questions were raised. For those unable to attend the banquet, the answers to those questions follow. First, there is no option to vote electronically at this time. Second, the ballot, inside a signed envelope, must be postmarked by the deadline date (to be provided) and mailed to Michele Miller, Nominating Chair. If you choose to save the cost of postage, you may hand the ballot in a signed envelope to Michele on or prior to the deadline date. Ballots received late or not inside a signed envelope will not be counted. Please review Article IV of the GVWGA Constitution for complete details on the new procedure. For further clarification, the minutes of the banquet will be posted on the website in the near future.
In addition, a new program, the Birdie Pool, was introduced by Sue Sogard. Details of this program can also be found in the banquet minutes. Please note: the tournament chair of each event WILL NOT administer the program. All questions should be directed to Sue. If you're up for betting on your own game, this could be a fun thing to participate in - totally optional and separate from prize money.
So, fingers crossed for a healthy season for all, see you soon.
